The lap

Harbour Lights is free from the start, and it is the first circuit that punishes a driver for overdriving. The quay is wide, nearly eleven metres, so there is room to set up a move; each container corner squeezes to six, so the apex is the one place on the lap you cannot be two abreast. The width does the teaching: get the entry right and the exit opens, get it wrong and the wall is waiting. The sheds in the infield are slow and narrow, and the lap time is made by being patient through them.

Corner by corner

  1. Start and finish on the quay.
  2. The long quay. Room to set a move, and the best draft on the lap.
  3. Container corner 1, a square right between the stacks. Six metres wide at the apex.
  4. The link road, opening out again.
  5. Narrowing into turn 2.
  6. Container corner 2, the second square right.
  7. Exit into the sheds and the infield.
  8. The infield. Patience, not speed, back onto the quay.

How to drive it

  • Brake in a straight line for both container corners; the apex is too narrow to recover a slide.
  • Make your passes on the quay, not in the corners. Anyone who dives for the inside of a container corner is in the wall.
  • Through the sheds, a smooth lap beats a fast one. Every metre of slide costs more than it gains.

Race it

Harbour Lights is open from your first race, and it counts toward your ten free races. Your best lap here goes to its own Game Center board, and any lap can be sent to a friend as a ghost.
