The lap
Downtown Grid is the only circuit that is never empty. Six-lane avenues, twenty-six metres kerb to kerb, run round the blocks through ten right angles, a step on the east side and a U-shaped notch at the top, with the longest avenue as the start straight and the tightest corner, thirty-two metres, at the end of it. The traffic is real: buses, taxis, trucks and delivery vans in every race, in their own lanes, which you share. The lap is as much about reading the road ahead as about the corners.
Corner by corner
- Start and finish on the longest avenue.
- Turn 1, the tightest corner on the lap, at the end of the avenue.
- Right angles round the first blocks.
- The step on the east side.
- The U-shaped notch at the top of the circuit.
- Right angles back down the west side.
- Onto the start avenue.
How to drive it
- Pick the lane two blocks early. A bus in your lane at a right angle is a lost corner, and the mirrors show it coming.
- Brake for the right angles at the boards; the avenues are wide enough that the braking zone is the overtake.
- The notch at the top is three corners in a row with traffic in all of them. Slow in, and leave the pass for the straight after.
Race it
Downtown Grid unlocks in the career for 22,000 crew cash, earned from race prizes. Once it is yours it can turn up in the championship and in the Daily Challenge, where a wet day means less grip. Your best lap here goes to its own Game Center board, and any lap can be sent to a friend as a ghost.
